LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Christian Bethancourt has had an impressive spring training in-between visits to health care professionals.
The Braves’ rookie catcher was out of the lineup Tuesday night against the Astros after having two wisdom teeth removed earlier in the day. He was scheduled to make Wednesday’s trip to face the Phillies in Clearwater, Fla., but manager Fredi Gonzalez said Bethancourt might be scratched from that and return to the lineup Thursday.
Bethancourt, who’ll take over the primary catching duties this season, has hit .306 (11-for-36) with seven extra-base hits in 13 games this spring, including his first home run Monday against the Tigers.
He went 3-for-4 with two doubles on March 17 against the Red Sox before being sidelined for the next week of games due to flu-like symptoms.
