Any start time after 5 p.m. is considered a night game in the National League, which made the Braves’ 5:05 p.m. game Sunday their only “night game” in a three-day stretch against the Rockies and the Red Sox, who arrive to start a two-game series at Turner Field Monday at 1:10 p.m.

So far, nighttime has been the right time for Braves hitters. Or, at least, daytime has been the wrong time.

The Braves have hit a majors-worst .197 in day games with a .266 OBP and .344 slugging percentage. They’ve hit .252 in night games — tied with Washington for seventh in the National League before Sunday — with a .310 OBP and .402 slugging percentage.

Because of the offensive disparity, the Braves are just 7-8 in day games despite a majors-best 2.32 ERA. Oakland had the next-best day-game ERA at 2.66 before Sunday, and the A’s were 12-8 in those games. The Reds were second in the NL with a 2.67 ERA in day games, and had an 11-8 record.
