The Braves placed shortstop Dansby Swanson on the 10-day disabled list with left wrist inflammation.
Swanson left Wednesday’s game in the sixth inning for precautionary reasons. He was declared day-to-day, and the team didn’t expect a DL stint.
Braves manager Brian Snitker said Swanson was meeting with doctors Friday afternoon.
It’s unclear how long the wrist was bothering Swanson, but his performance dropped off in the past 11 games. He hit .186 (8-for-43) with seven multi-strikeout games after hitting .352 with 11 extra-base hits in the first 17 games.
“He tweaked it and aggravated it that last at-bat when we took him out of the game,” Snitker said. “So it was just something he’d been fighting a little bit. … It was pretty evident to me in the at-bat that it wasn’t going well. I didn’t want to take a chance.”
Outfielder Preston Tucker, who was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the day to open a spot for third baseman Jose Bautista, was recalled to fill the roster spot.
Johan Camargo made his second consecutive start in Swanson’s place at shortstop Friday.
