How the game was won: Carlos Gomez's second homer of the game, a three-run shot off Luis Avilan in the eighth inning, lifted the Brewers to a 6-5 win against the Braves at Miller Park, thwarting Atlanta's sweep bid and erasing Julio Teheran's would-be first road win since opening day. Cameron Maybin hit a three-run homer and Kelly Johnson added a solo homer in a four-run third inning for the Braves, but they were outscored 6-1 the rest of the way in losing for just the second time in eight July games. Teheran got no decision after allowing three runs, two hits (both homers) and three walks with eight strikeouts in 115 pitches. He had been 0-4 with an 8.23 ERA in his previous eight road starts.

Number: 8 and 43. Home runs and RBIs for Maybin, who is just one shy of the career-high nine homers he hit in 568 plate appearances for the Padres in 2011, and two from matching his career-high RBI total in 561 plate appearances for the 2012 Padres.

What's next: The Braves travel to Colorado for a four-game series against the Rockies, their last games before the All-Star break. In Thursday's 8:40 p.m. (Eastern) series opener, Braves lefty Alex Wood (6-5, 3.34 ERA) faces Rockies right-hander Kyle Kendrick (3-10, 6.00).
