The Braves signed their top draft pick Jason Hursh, the hard-throwing right-hander out of Oklahoma State to just over a $1.7 million bonus and made it official with an announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
The Braves wanted Hursh to have some time to relax and regroup after the completion of his college season and the draft, which was June 6-8. They invited him to Turner Field on Wednesday afternoon to officially sign and meet with the media.
The Braves signed Hursh right at the bonus pool recommendation, technically $1,704,200, for the 31st overall pick.
Hursh, 6-foot-1, 197 pounds, has a fastball that sits in the low 90s and touches up to 98, 99 mph. He missed the 2012 season following Tommy John surgery but showed no ill-effects his redshirt sophomore season, while going 6-5 with a 2.79 ERA in 16 starts.
He was named second-team All-Big 12 after finishing tied for first in the conference in starts (16), tied for second in strikeouts (86) and third in innings pitched (106 1/3).
