CINCINNATI — Matt Wisler's second stint as a Braves relief pitcher went better than his first. But the Braves sent the right-hander back to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday so Wisler can get work as a starting pitcher again.

“We don’t want him to stay away from it that long,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “If we need him he’s still stretched out. It will be better for him to go down there and start.”

Wisler made 26 starts for the Braves in 2016 and 19 in 2015, with an overall 4.88 ERA over 265 2/3 innings, and began this season at Gwinnett. Wisler was called up in late April, but went back to Gwinnett after surrendering seven combined earned runs over 3 1/3 innings in back-to-back appearances May 2 and 3.

Wisler returned to the Braves later in the month and allowed no hits or runs over four total innings in two appearances. Wisler last pitched Sunday at San Francisco.
