Braves center fielder Cameron Maybin has been cleared to pinch run but is at least two days away from returning to the lineup, manager Fredi Gonzalez said on Friday.
Maybin hasn’t played since he left Saturday’s game at the Nationals because of poor vision. He was diagnosed with a scratched cornea in his left eye and Gonzalez said Maybin developed an infection related to the injury.
Maybin hasn’t been able to wear his contact lens while the eye heals.
“The concern is he can’t see the ball real well but as far as running and standing, he’s fine,” Gonzalez said.
Maybin has started 112 games in center field for the Braves after they acquired him in a trade with the Padres on the eve of opening day. He’s hitting .268 with a .333 on-base percentage and .382 slugging percentage and has 21 stolen bases in 27 attempts.
