BOSTON — The Braves optioned right-hander Ryan Weber to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday after he struggled to finish a game against the Red Sox the previous night. The Braves recalled right-hander John Gant from Gwinnett to take Weber's place in the bullpen.

Weber allowed five runs on six hits while pitching the eighth and ninth innings of the 11-5 loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday at Turner Field. In three appearances (7 2/3 innings) for the Braves this season Weber has allowed nine earned runs on 15 hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Gant made his big-league debut with the Braves on April 6 and made two more appearances before being sent back to Gwinnett. In three innings before Wednesday he posted a 12.00 ERA with six hits allowed, including two home runs, and seven strikeouts.

The Braves have 13 pitchers and 12 position players on the roster.
