After opening spring training with 70 players on the roster the Braves started trimming their numbers on Saturday.

The Braves released right-handed pitchers David Carpenter and Ryan Kelly. The team also assigned five players to minor-league camp: outfielders Braxton Davidson and Matt Tuiasosopo and catchers Matt Kennelly, Joe Odom and Braeden Schlehuber.

Carpenter was a top reliever for the Braves in 2013 and 2014 and had re-signed with the team following stints with the Yankees and Nationals last season. Kelly made his big-league debut with the Braves last season and appeared in 17 games while posting a 7.02 ERA over 16 2/3 innings.

The Braves now have 63 players in big-league camp with 37 pitchers and 26 position players.
