Braves outfielder Ender Inciarte left Friday’s game with an right groin injury.
The injury occurred after he stole second base in the fifth inning. He stayed in the game and scored on a Chase D’Arnaud two-run home run.
When the Braves came back out in the sixth inning, Inciarte was replaced by D’Arnaud in center. Infielder Jace Peterson came on at second base.
Inciarte was 0-for-3 with a run scored and that stolen base before leaving the game. The Braves announced that his injury will be re-evaluated on Saturday.
After the game, Braves interim manager Brian Snitker said that Inciarte was taken out as precaution. He believes that the injury isn’t too serious for Inciarte to miss much time.
“He is okay as he has a little strain, he is day-to-day,” he said. “I am probably going to sit him tomorrow and maybe he will be ready to go by Sunday.”
Snitker also said that he didn’t want the injury to progress further.
“You go out there and someone hits a ball over your head and that thing goes, you are six to eight weeks,” Snitker said. “So let’s air on the safe side and re-evaluate him.”
This is the second injury for Inciarte this season. He spent some time on the 15-disabled list with a strained left hamstring in April 10-May 7.
