Updates on former Braves around the majors and minors:
Jason Heyward, OF
St. Louis Cardinals
He hit .400 last week, but his average sits at .253, and in a recent St. Louis Post-Dispatch article, Cards GM John Mozeliak had to defend trading Shelby Miller for Heyward.
Craig Kimbrel, P
San Diego Padres
He’s converted 12 of 13 save opportunities and has gotten his ERA under 5.00 at 4.50. Kimbrel has 29 strikeouts in 20 innings this season, compared with eight walks.
Dan Uggla, 2B
Washington Nationals
He’s received only 23 at-bats in 30 games since hitting a three-run homer against the Braves on April 28. He only had two at-bats in the past week and is hitting .200.
Evan Gattis, OF-DH
Houston Astros
He finished with two homers and six RBIs in the past week, upping his totals to 12 and 36. Gattis is batting .234, but surprisingly the 260-pounder has two triples this season.
Justin Upton, OF
San Diego Padres
His monster season continues. Upton is hitting .300 and has 12 homers and 37 RBIs. That’s a pace that would give him 35 and 109 by the end of the season.
Brian McCann, C
New York Yankees
McCann hit .316 with two homers in the past week, bumping his average to .248, but he left Wednesday’s game with a sore right foot and underwent an MRI Thursday.
Tim Hudson, P
San Francisco Giants
He pitched well in his last start (six strikeouts and just two runs allowed in seven innings), but still got a loss. The 39-year-old is 3-5 with a 4.41 ERA after 11 starts.
Jeff Francoeur, OF
Philadelphia Phillies
The former Parkview star was 4-for-9 at the plate in the past week and has raised his average to .252. That’s after hitting .083 in 2014 and .204 in 2013.
David Carpenter, P
New York Yankees
Carpenter, 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA, was designated for assignment. He allowed 20 hits and walked seven in just 18 2/3 innings and also had two blown saves.
Melvin Upton Jr., OF
San Diego Padres
He’s in the minors, rehabbing from a foot injury and has played 11 games for the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas. Upton is hitting .268 and has three stolen bases.
