NEW YORK – Hot-hitting third baseman Adonis Garcia was out of the Braves lineup for Friday night’s series opener against the Mets after injuring his left ankle late in Thursday’s win against the Reds.
“He was sore today when he came in,” Braves interim manager Brian Snitker said before batting practice Friday at Citi Field. “I think if he had to play he probably could. We’ll see where he’s at tomorrow.”
Garcia left Thursday’s game after running gingerly when he advanced to second base on a single by Jace Peterson. Garcia had reached base on a throwing error when he hit a grounder with two outs in the inning.
After head trainer Jeff Porter came out to check on Garcia at second base, he left the game.
“I don’t really know if he stepped on a base; I couldn’t identify when it actually happened,” Snitker said. “I don’t know if it was rounding bases or running to bases, exactly what it was. It’s hard to identify exactly where it happened. Maybe just tweaked it a little bit, and it started biting him when he got there.
“He kind of felt like maybe just give him today and tomorrow (he would be ready).”
Garcia was 12-for-30 (.400) with two home runs on the Braves’ just-completed homestand.
