Braves distribute over 18,500 tickets to hurricane evacuees during weekend

The Braves distributed 18,562 tickets to Hurricane Irma evacuees over their four-game weekend series against the Marlins, according to the team.

Those under mandatory evacuation orders from Georgia, Florida and South Carolina were eligible for complimentary tickets to SunTrust Park from Thursday through Sunday.

Several Marlins players and officials brought their families on the trip to Atlanta and Philadelphia. The Braves arranged for them to attend local attractions such as the Coca-Cola Museum and the Georgia Aquarium during their stay.

"We know how difficult it has been for those who have had to pack up and leave their homes as Hurricane Irma approaches," said Derek Schiller, Braves president of business, in a statement. "We hope we can help take their mind off the storm for a few hours by coming to enjoy a baseball game at SunTrust Park."

Those in attendance were treated to entertaining baseball The Braves walked off in three of the four games, the first time they’ve done such since at least 1930.

The Braves said they distributed approximately 3,000 tickets on Friday, 7,300 on Saturday night and 8,500 on Sunday afternoon.
