How the winning run scored: For the second consecutive game, a home run by Ernesto Mejia drove home the winning run for the Gwinnett Braves. On Monday, the G-Braves trailed 5-4 going to the top of the ninth. After Joe Leonard's one-out single drove home Joey Terdoslavich to tie the score, Mejia came to the plate as a pinch hitter and drove a 2-1 pitch over the wall in left field for a three-run homer that gave Gwinnett an 8-5 lead.

At the plate: G-Braves outfielders Brandon Boggs (3-f0r-4), Jose Constanza (2-for-5) and Todd Cunningham (2-for-4, two RBIs) combined for seven of Gwinnett's 11 hits.

On the mound: Gwinnett starter Omar Poveda gave up five runs on seven hits in six innings. Poveda struck out seven.

Up next for Gwinnett: The G-Braves (22-30) and the Chiefs (22-28) meet for the second game of their series at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Gwinnett left-hander Daniel Rodriguez (2-3, 6.14 ERA) is scheduled to start against Syracuse righty Matt Torra (0-0, 6.75).
