On his Twitter account, ex-Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons says "I am that guy that says he can do everything, but that's just because I can."
It’s not bragging when you back it up.
Simmons, now with the Los Angeles Angels, is proving he can do everything this season. With 35 games remaining, Simmons is hitting a career-best .292, has 13 homers (four away from his career high), and 57 RBIs (two fewer than the best total of his six-year career).
And Simmons has always been great with the glove but Monday he showed he didn’t even need that when he caught a throw from the outfield barehanded.
The Braves traded Simmons to the Angels in November of 2015. Atlanta received shortstop Erick Aybar, pitching prospects Sean Newcomb and Chris Ellis and cash while Los Angeles also gained a minor-league catcher.
Aybar now plays for the San Diego Padres and Ellis is in Double-A pitching for Springfield, an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Newcomb is 2-7 with a 4.13 ERA for the Braves in 13 games this season.
Simmons hit .281 in his first season with the Angels in 2016, with just four homers and 44 RBIs.
He won two Gold Gloves for the Braves but is seeking his first one in the American League.
