Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez posted a video of him volleying a soccer ball on Tuesday in a sign that the striker may be on schedule to return next season.

Martinez suffered an injury to his right knee in the season-opening game Feb. 29 at Nashville.

Martinez underwent successful ACL surgery on March 18.

Tuesday’s video was at least the second Martinez has posted that included him working with a ball. The first was one of him slowly dribbling around cones.

Without Martinez, Atlanta United had one of the worst attacks in the league with just 23 goals scored and the team failed to make the playoffs for the first time in four seasons.

Atlanta United is training to play Club America Dec. 16 in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal game in Orlando, Fla.

Martinez will not play in that game. Club president Darren Eales and vice president Carlos Bocanegra have repeatedly said that Martinez won’t play in the game and should be able to return for next season.

Atlanta United will likely start training camp in late January or early February.
