Romario Williams showed a few glimpses why Atlanta United signed him in Jamaica’s 1-0 loss to the U.S. men’s national soccer team on Friday in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Williams, a 22-year-old forward, showed a good work rate and athleticism, even if his team wasn’t able to get a shot on goal. Williams came closes in the first half when U.S. goalkeeper Luis Robles parried a shot that went off Williams’ knee and out of bounds near the goal.

“It was a good showing from the guys, only being together for a couple of days,” said Williams, who made his second appearance with the senior team.

Williams has yet to attend Atlanta United’s preseason camp because of his national team duties. He said he will report after Jamaica’s game against Honduras on Feb. 16.

Williams played 83 minutes against the U.S. He tried a few stepovers in a one-on-one situation in the first half, but U.S. midfielder Dax McCarty tracked back and broke up Williams’ run. Williams also fulfilled his defensive duties by getting back, and looked solid playing with his back to goal. He also hit two nice crosses, but no teammates made runs on either.

Williams said he has no worries that he hasn’t been able to practice with his new teammates. He said his agent has been in constant communication with Atlanta United. Club manager Gerardo Martino said last week that he has no worries, either.

When he does report, Williams said he just wants to do his best.

“Those guys, they are building a tremendous roster,” he said. “We have a wonderful team and are doing things the right way. I’m just looking forward to joining up and giving it my best shot and hopefully get my chance.”
