What’s trending for Atlanta United heading into the 2019 season:

UP

George Bello. Not too many people would have predicted that Bello, 17, would become the first of the team's Homegrown Signings to become a regular starter, but it seems likely that the Douglasville native will be manager Frank de Boer's first choice as left fullback or wingback.

Pity Martinez. The big signing this offseason dazzled with individual moves during the preseason and in the first Champions League game at Herediano. Seems likely at least 10 goals and 10 assists should be accomplished.

The supporters. More than 100 traveled to Costa Rica for the first Champions League game. Others have gone to Newcastle to watch former Atlanta United player Miguel Almiron. It seems likely that the team will lead MLS in average attendance for a third consecutive season.

DOWN

The new primary kits. The team's new kits are very similar to those worn by A.C. Milan or the old MetroStars in MLS and, quizzically, have nine stripes instead of five. Plus, not all versions include the star that comes symbolizing the MLS Cup won last season.

Chris Goslin. The team's second Homegrown Signing unfortunately missed most of training camp because of an injury so it doesn't seem likely that he will break into the 18 too many times as a central midfielder this season. However, he's still just 18 years old so there is plenty of time for him to work his way into the lineup.

The East. Toronto won the MLS Cup in 2017 and failed to be one of the six teams to make the playoffs in 2018. This season, because Cincinnati was added as an expansion team, seven teams from each conference will qualify for the playoffs. With the exception of Atlanta United and New York Red Bulls, it's almost difficult to decide on seven teams in the East that are good enough to make the playoffs.
