Atlanta United fullback Greg Garza did enough in camp and in a game with the U.S. men’s national soccer team to be considered for another invitation, manager Bruce Arena said on Friday following his team’s 1-0 victory over Jamaica on Friday in Chattanooga, Tenn.
“Both Greg and Jorge (Villafana) are players we can look at as we develop a roster for the qualifiers,” Arena said.
The U.S. has two crucial World Cup qualifying games in March: Honduras on the 24th and Panama on the 28th.
Garza didn’t play Friday after getting seeing 69 minutes at leftback in last week’s 0-0 draw with Serbia in San Diego.
“It’s wonderful to start off the year like this,” he said. “What better way than to put on the crest? I think I did a pretty good job and hopefully made a statement to get back in in the future.
“Now I have to concentrate on Atlanta and do well there to get back here.”
Garza will report to the team on Monday. The team has one left back in camp, Mikey Ambrose.
