HOUSTON – Infielder Johan Camargo replaced utilityman Ehire Adrianza on the Braves’ World Series roster, MLB announced Tuesday before Game 6.
Adrianza was placed on the postseason paternity list. He’ll be away from the team for 1-3 days. If Adrianza rejoins the Braves, he’ll take Camargo’s spot.
The versatile Adrianza is 0-for-2 in the World Series. He has only one hit this postseason, a pinch-hit double that was key in the Braves’ Game 6 victory over the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. Camargo, who was on the NLCS roster, is 0-for-4 during the postseason.
The Braves lead the Astros 3-2 in the World Series. They would win their second championship since moving to Atlanta with a victory Tuesday night. If Houston wins, the Braves and Astros will play a winner-take-all Game 7 on Wednesday.
Braves notes:
- Manager Brian Snitker tweaked his lineup for Game 6, among the changes was second baseman Ozzie Albies dropping to the seventh spot. Albies has hit .167 (3-for-18) in the World Series. His last extra-base hit was a double in Game 6 against the Dodgers.
“I talked to him yesterday before we left, just change the look a little bit, which we’ve done in the past,” Snitker said. Left fielder Eddie Rosario led off, followed by designated hitter Jorge Soler. First baseman Freddie Freeman hit third.
“It’s just where we are,” Snitker said. “Ozzie’s hit everywhere from one to four or five over the course of the summer. At this point, it was more he’s scuffling a little bit. Just want to change the look.”
Albies has hit .251 with 15 doubles, five triples and five homers across 51 games in the 7-spot.
- The Braves had a 3-1 lead over the Astros before their Game 6 loss. It’s the 49th time a team assembled a 3-1 lead in the World Series; 41 of the teams to do so won the title (85.4%).
- Braves lefty Max Fried was set to start Game 6. It would be his ninth career postseason start, already the fifth most in franchise history. The only starters with more: Tom Glavine (32), John Smoltz (27), Greg Maddux (27) and Steve Avery (12).
- Third baseman Austin Riley said the Braves have been in good spirits entering Game 6. They didn’t finish it at home, but they have a chance to bring Atlanta its second major championship Tuesday in Houston.
“I think we really wanted to finish it off in Atlanta; you can ask anybody, there’s no question,” Riley said. “But today I feel like we’ve kind of got that mind-set, we need to finish the job. We come in here for a reason. Let’s not waste any time. And that’s our mind. That’s our goal. Like I said, it’s just good vibes.
- The Braves have avoided consecutive losses since a four-game skid in mid-September. If the trend continues, they’ll be champions Tuesday.
