Braves reliever Chris Martin began his rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Gwinnett, the team announced.

Martin has been sidelined since Sept. 2 with right elbow inflammation. In his most recent outing, he was charged one run on two hits, also walking one, in what became the Braves’ 4-3 loss to the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sept. 1.

Once one of the most reliable veterans in the Braves’ bullpen, Martin’s performance has dipped in recent months. He has a 4.97 ERA since June 1 (32 games). He’s posted a 5.40 ERA over 15 innings in the season’s second half. Martin also surrendered at least one run in three of his four appearances before he was placed on the injured list.

This is Martin’s second stint on the IL. He missed over a month earlier in the year with shoulder inflammation.

Martin, 35, has a 4.17 ERA across 40 appearances (36-2/3 innings) overall. He’ll be a free agent this winter after completing a two-year, $14 million deal with the Braves.
