Yamil Asad said on Tuesday that he would like to make his loan to Atlanta United permanent.

Asad, on loan from Velez Sarsfield in his native Argentina, is third in MLS this season with nine assists. The 22-year-old midfielder also has two goals, including the first in franchise history.

“I would love to,” he said. “Like I said before, it’s not my decision.”

A report in Argentina a few weeks ago quoted Asad’s father as saying that his son’s loan had been made permanent.

Asad said he called his father and asked him what he was talking about.

“Nothing here is official yet,” he said. “As of now, it’s just rumors.”

Speaking at the midseason break, Atlanta United President Darren Eales said he loans for Asad and fullback Greg Garza would likely be addressed after the season.

Atlanta United (9-7-3) is in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. It will play at Orlando City (8-7-5) on Friday.
