Georgia State lets second-half lead get away in 84-80 loss to Marshall

With 15 minutes standing between Georgia State and a third straight win, the Panthers couldn’t hang on to a second-half lead, as they fell to 1-8 on the road in an 84-80 loss to Marshall in a Sun Belt Conference matchup on Wednesday.
Jelani Hamilton’s 15 points and five steals were not enough for the Panthers, who saw their brief win streak snapped at two. Georgia State, which led 50-44 with 14:23 left to play, fell to 4-11 overall and 1-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.
Jalen Speer had 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Marshall, while Wyatt Fricks scored 21 points for the Thundering Herd (9-5, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference).
Fricks made 7 for 11 (1 for 5 from 3-point range) and 6 of 8 from the free-throw line and finished with six rebounds and three blocks. Landen Joseph shot 4 for 8, including 2 for 5 from beyond the arc, to finish with 10 points for the Thundering Herd.
Trey Scott III finished with 15 points and two steals for the Panthers, who play at Coastal Carolina Saturday.
