A wild bear wandered into the Alaska Zoo and hung out in a tree for most of the day, finally leaving at about 1 p.m. after a stay of about seven hours.
The bear appeared to be about 2 years old, officials said, and may have recently been pushed away by its mother.

The bear spent its time in a tree at the back of the zoo near the tigers, a zoo official said, leading keepers to put all the zoo’s animals back into their dens.
Spokesperson Ken Marsh said the tigers got excited and the wolves definitely did not want to go inside once they noticed the bear.
“The tigers were very excited about the new resident. They were actually put into their nighttime dens. And the wolves were very curious,” Myer said. “A couple of the wolves were like ‘no’ and it took a while to get them in.”
The zoo remained closed for the day, for obvious reasons.

It’s not the first time officials have dealt with a wayward black bear.
“Many years ago we had a black bear that just kept coming back,” Myer said. “So we made him a home here. And George the magpie, she flew here. We brought her to Bird TLC and everything, but it was clear she had spent a long time in captivity. So we kept her.”
Myer said he hopes the latest visitor walks on the wild side and doesn’t come back.
