A gruesome discovery was made off the coast of the Philippines - a sailor's body sitting in the radio room of a drifting yacht.

The man, who is believed to be German adventurer Manfred Fritz Bajorat, was found near the boat's radio, appearing to have been trying to make one final call for help, The Mirror reported.

Bajorat's body was mummified, aided by dry ocean winds and salt air.

Officials are not sure how long Bajorat has been dead or what killed him.

But there had been no sightings of the captain's yacht since 2009.

The boat was towed by the fishermen who spotted it to the shores of Barobo before calling police, The Manila Times reported.

A forensic criminologist told reporters that "The way he is sitting seems to indicate that death was unexpected, perhaps from a heart attack," The Sun reported.
