Game wardens in Oklahoma confiscated a preserved polar bear from a hangar in the R.L. Jones airport in Tulsa County Thursday night.

They say the man who had the bear did not have proper documentation to legally have it. Now, a judge has to decide if the family claiming to own the bear will get it back.

The Gilstrap family says Bill Gilstrap Sr. killed the polar bear in 1969 in Alaska.

A few years after having it stuffed, he brought it back to Oklahoma. It was on display in several banks in Mayes County for several years.

The bear was later moved to the airport. At some point, the hangar where the bear was held was sold. Now, the family and the hangar owner cannot figure out who owns the bear.

The family says it has all the documents to prove it owns the bear. Now family members want to pass it on to their grandchildren, who have never seen it in person.
