The weekend forecast is for mostly sunny skies, warmer temperatures and plenty of road construction to slow traffic on metro interstates.
After taking last weekend off for Independence Day, road crews will be out in force on several stretches of interstate, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Top trouble spots: "Wise metro motorists will remember where they don't want to be – I-285 on the northwest side and I-20 anywhere," GDOT spokesman David Spear said.
In Rockdale County, two eastbound lanes will be shut down between Salem Road and Ga. 12, from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, while on the other side of town, Douglas County motorists will find two westbound lanes blocked between Liberty and Post roads during the same hours.
In Cobb County, two southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed all weekend between Paces Ferry Road and South Cobb Drive, Spear said.
Other construction areas: Re-striping is planned on the exit ramps from the Downtown Connector to I-20 eastbound from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly. Spear said the ramps will remain open, but delays are likely.
In Gwinnett County, one lane of I-85 northbound will be closed near Jimmy Carter Boulevard from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Weekend forecast: Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz is forecasting a 30 percent chance of rain Friday, diminishing to 20 percent Saturday and Sunday.
Nitz is predicting highs of 89 Friday, 90 Saturday and 91 Sunday, with overnight lows in the low 70s.
