The teenager’s friends tried to help him, but the officer responded by pulling his gun and firing one shot. Witnesses said the officer didn’t fire toward anyone, according to police.

This confrontation started over ongoing issues with kids walking across the officer's property, police said. Police also said the boy threatened to shoot the officer, but the boy's mother said he threatened to sue him, not shoot him, according to ABC News.

No one was harmed during the incident and the officer was placed on administrative leave.

After the incident, hundreds protested. It started peacefully until some started to vandalize the officer’s home. In the end, 24 people were arrested, according to The Associated Press.
