Sandy Springs police Tuesday released security video from a Target store where a man was wounded Sunday in a shooting that investigators said was drug-related.
The shooting happened about 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Target at The Prado shopping center on Roswell Road.
Mario Ross, 27, was shot and is stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital. Police arrested a passenger that was in Ross’s car, 28-year-old Larry J. Walls of Milwaukee, and charged him with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
“Investigators learned that Ross and Walls were part of a drug deal that was taking place in the parking lot,” Sandy Springs police Capt. Steve Rose said. “Detectives continue to work on finding the identity of the other men who were part of the drug transaction and responsible for the shooting.”
Though difficult to see, Sandy Springs police Sgt. Ron Momon said “all the action” occurs at the 6 p.m. time stamp on the security video released Tuesday, in the upper right corner of the screen.
Around that time, Walls bolts from the front passenger seat of Ross’ 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer and one of the suspects chases him, Momon said.
“Two suspects exit the tan/silver SUV and rush the Trailblazer at same time Mario Ross exits and is fighting with one of the suspects,” he said.
As Mario Ross walks toward the entrance of the Target, the suspects get back in their cars and drove off, Momon said.
“Mario Ross is walking/limping directly towards the camera as the Dodge Charger drives by him,” he said. Off camera, “he collapses on the ground in front of the entrance soon after.”
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective M. Tuvlin at 770-551-3312.
