Two Florida men were accused of stealing more than $65,000 worth of equipment from a cellphone store, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Gerardo Martinez Reygada, 49, was charged of two counts of burglary; possessing burglary tools with intent to use them; grand theft up to $100,000 and violating probation, the newspaper reported. Reygada had been on felony probation in Miami-Dade County for burglary, grand theft and aggravated assault with a weapon without intent to kill, WPLG reported.
Reygada’s nephew, Javier Asnaldo Gonzalez, 29, faces a charge of possession of stolen property.
Sunday night, Broward County deputies investigated burglaries at two businesses in a Deerfield Beach shopping center, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Deputies found that someone had broken into a commercial property management company and then cut through drywall to enter a T-Mobile store, the newspaper reported. Investigators found an empty safe and black paint covering the lenses of the cellphone company’s security cameras.
According to deputies, property stolen included 93 new T-Mobile phones, Apple watches, Samsung watches and a bag of SIM cards worth $65,000.
The thieves also took GPS tracking devices, which led authorities to Reygada, who was driving an Infiniti in Pompano Beach, the Sun-Sentinel reported. Another tracking device led police to Gonzalez, who was driving a Cadillac SUV on I-95 in Miami when he was pulled over, the newspaper reported.
According to a police report, Gonzalez said he acted as a lookout during the burglary, telling authorities, “I made a mistake. I should not have been there. I was just the driver. I don’t have a record.”
Police found four large garbage bags inside the SUV that contained the stolen devices, the Sun-Sentinel reported. There also were burglary tools and gloves, according to the arrest report.
