The summer pattern of hot and wet weather will continue Tuesday, with showers and 90-degree temperatures in the forecast once again.
“We are going to have the heat and we are going to have the storms build later on today,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
The morning is off to a calm, dry start, with temperatures landing in the mid-70s. Heading into the afternoon, temperatures will quickly climb to a high of 90 degrees.
However, don’t let that compel you to leave your umbrella behind, Monahan said.
Scattered showers are expected to move in about 1 p.m., he said.
The wet weather won’t reach everyone, Monahan said. Several areas will stay relatively.
However, widespread rainfall is in the forecast on both Wednesday and Thursday, he said.
The good news is it’ll bring temperatures down later in the week. Highs in the mid- and upper 80s are predicted through Friday.
Drivers in DeKalb and Fulton counties may have a difficult time getting through metro Atlanta, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
A MARTA bus fire is leading to huge delays Tuesday morning on Spaghetti Junction.
No passengers were on board at the time of the fire and the driver was able to get off of the bus safely, MARTA spokeswoman Stephany Fisher told AJC.com. It is not clear how the fire began, but DeKalb County firefighters have brought the blaze under control, the Traffic Center reported.
The northbound and southbound ramps from I-85 to I-285 West, however, are shut down.
In Fulton County, all eastbound lanes of I-20 at Fulton Industrial Boulevard were shut down for more than four hours due to a deadly crash involving a tractor-trailer.
The crash was clearing just before 6:50 a.m., but heavy delays remained. The Traffic Center suggests drivers use Veterans Memorial Highway as an alternate route.
And authorities shut down the exit ramp from the southbound Downtown Connector to I-20 East due to an overturned Coca-Cola delivery truck, according to the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
The driver exited the tractor-trailer on his own through the front windshield and only minor injuries were reported, the agency said in a tweet.
“Worst #ATLtraffic morning we’ve seen in a while,” she wrote in a tweet.
