A pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday in southeast Atlanta, police said.

A car struck the pedestrian at Moreland Avenue and Gracewood Avenue, Atlanta police Officer Kim Jones said. The pedestrian died on the scene.

At one point, Moreland Avenue was shut down in both directions and drivers were urged to use Boulevard or Flat Shoals as alternate routes. Officials reopened Moreland Avenue just before 8:30 a.m.

The accident was one of two fatal accidents involving pedestrians.

In Hall County, a pedestrian was hit and killed just past Athens Highway on I-985 South, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The names of the dead pedestrians have not been released.
