Two people were killed Monday in a head-on collision in Hall County, the Georgia State Patrol said.

About 7:25 a.m., a northbound Mitsubishi Galant and a southbound Ford Escape were on Ga. 11, just south of Walden Pond Road. For unknown reasons, the Galant went into the southbound lane and struck the Escape, the GSP said. Earlier, officials said the crash happened in Bartow County.

Both vehicles rotated counterclockwise and both drivers died.

Authorities identified William Simmemon, 56, of Alto, as the driver of the Galant. Samuel Osborn, 61, of Hiawassee, was identified as the driver of the Escape.

His passenger, Vivian Osborn, 54, of Hiawassee, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition, the GSP said.

The crash remains under investigation.
