A fatal wreck has U.S. 29 shut down in both directions, Fairburn police said Friday  morning.

The crash occurred about 10:15 a.m. just south of Ga. 74, authorities said in a tweet. A woman leaving the Evergreen Park apartments turned left in front of a vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. 29, Deputy Chief Anthony Bazydlo said in a news release.

The 53-year-old woman who made the left turn was killed. Her name has not been released.

The man driving the other vehicle was hospitalized with serious injuries, Bazydlo said.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area, if possible.
