Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision Tuesday morning in Cherokee County.

The driver of a Nissan Maxima was passing a tractor-trailer and collided with an eastbound Hyundai Genesis. Both drivers were killed.

Cherokee sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the accident about 8:10 a.m. on Ball Ground Road at the bridge east of Conns Creek Road, sheriff's Sgt. Marianne Kelley said.

Brent Burnette, 23, of Ellijay, was driving westbound on Ball Ground Road in a Nissan Maxima and collided with an eastbound Hyundai Genesis driven by 39-year-old Robert McMullen of Ball Ground, Kelley said.

Burnette was passing a tractor-trailer at the time, Kelley said.

Both drivers died on the scene.
