Three crashes on I-20 East caused a traffic nightmare on both sides of the interstate during the Monday morning commute in DeKalb County.

The messy traffic situation started with a crash just before 6 a.m. at Wesley Chapel Road, DeKalb police Lt. Lonzy Robertson said.

Minor injuries were reported in the accident, which shut down all lanes on I-20 and a left lane from the I-285 ramp, police said.

Some lanes had started to reopen when a second crash was reported at about 7:10 a.m. on I-20 East between I-285 and Wesley Chapel.

Crews started clearing the scene about an hour later, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Then, another crash was reported just east of I-285 at about 8:20 a.m. That one involved a dump truck, according to the Traffic Center.

Although crews were able to move it off to the right in about 15 minutes, it compounded the delays.

Lanes have since reopened in all three crashes.

It’s unclear what caused the incidents or if the first two crashes were related. But the vehicle descriptions were the same in the first two incidents, Robertson said.

No injuries have been reported in the second or third crashes.
