A man was killed and another was injured when their car left the road and hit a tree in Cherokee County, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said Friday.

Barry McMahon, 73, of White, died from injuries he suffered Wednesday in the crash on White Road near Sutallee Ridge Trail, Sgt. Marianne Kelley said in a news release.

He was the passenger in a Chevrolet Nova driven by Alan McIntire, 62, of White, Kelley said. The car was traveling west on White Road when the crash happened just before 4:30 p.m.

McIntire was thrown from the vehicle, and both men were taken to area hospitals for treatment. McIntire’s condition is not known.

Sheriff’s officials are investigating the cause of the crash.
