After last weekend’s Memorial Day respite, work resumes tonight on three I-20 construction projects.
“Continue to avoid I-20 if at all possible,” warned Georgia Department of Transportation engineer Shun Pringle.
Roadwork breakdown: Pringle said I-20 delays are likely eastbound just east of the Downtown Connector and westbound in Newton County, while heavy traffic and similar backups are probable in both directions on I-20 in Douglas County.
On I-20 in Newton County, two westbound lanes between Almon and Alcovy roads will be closed from 9 tonight through 5 a.m. Monday.
In Douglas County, two lanes of I-20 in both directions between Ga. 5 and Liberty Road will be shut down from 7 tonight through 5 a.m. Monday.
Downtown, overnight restriping of I-20 eastbound will shut down three lanes from 8 tonight until 6 a.m. Saturday, then again during the same time periods Saturday and Sunday nights.
All three projects are weather permitting, and there is a chance of rain each day this weekend. Click here for up-to-the-minute traffic reports all weekend.
About those rain chances: Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley said the chance of rain is 40 percent today, 60 percent Saturday and 20 percent Sunday.
Some of the storms today and Saturday could become strong to severe, forecasters warned.
Chandley said highs will be in the mid- to upper 80s today and Saturday and in the low 80s Sunday, with morning lows in the upper 60s. Check the full weekend weather report and track changes.
Weekend events varied: The Georgia World Congress Center hosts the Wizard World Atlanta Comic Con festival today through Sunday.
The National Kidney Foundation's annual Atlanta Kidney Walk will be held Saturday morning at Turner Field.
Also downtown, the Atlanta Dream takes on the Seattle Storm tonight at Philips Arena.
Weekend events outside of downtown include the Candler Park Music and Food Festival today and Saturday and the 9th Annual Wing and Rock Festival Saturday and Sunday in downtown Woodstock. For a full list of weekend events, click here.
