Prepare yourself for a wet and humid day.

Thursday will be the wettest day of the week, with the chance of rain at 80%, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

Plan on keeping your wet weather gear throughout the day because “it’s going to be one of those days where you have the chance for downpours anytime,” he said.

The morning is off to a warm start with temperatures in the mid- and upper 70s. As the day progresses, temps will increase toward a high of 85 degrees in Atlanta, Monahan said.

With humidity at 87%, Thursday will be “uncomfortable” and “sticky,” according to Channel 2.

“You can cut the air with a knife as you come outside,” Monahan said.

Because of that humidity, expect a lot of rain, the news station reported. Parts of metro Atlanta are already getting a few morning showers, Monahan said. For now, the showers are light, but heavier downpours are anticipated starting at noon.

“As we get through the heat in the afternoon, that’s when the storms are really going to get going,” he said.

Right now, it’s an easy ride through metro Atlanta, but things are expected to be hectic later in the morning, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

In addition to wet pavement, drivers in Atlanta will want to be mindful of road closures due to John Lewis’ funeral. A private homegoing service for the longtime congressman and civil rights icon will be held at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, which the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once led. Following the service, Lewis will be buried at South-View Cemetery on Jonesboro Road in Atlanta.

Auburn Avenue is closed to traffic between Boulevard and Jackson Street until 1 p.m., Atlanta police said in a Twitter post. Jackson Street is shut down between Auburn Avenue and Irwin Street until 1 p.m. And Boulevard, Edgewood Avenue, Irwin Street and Jesse Hill Jr. Drive will be blocked between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the tweet. Commuters should use John Lewis Freedom Parkway, Decatur Street and Memorial Drive as alternate routes, the Traffic Center reported.
