You’ll need your sunglasses and your umbrella on Thursday.
More summertime showers are on the way, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.
“We are headed for the 90s today,” he said. “And there are going to be some storms this afternoon.”
The day is off to a calm start, with relatively clear skies and temperatures in the mid-70s. The morning hours will remain sunny, Monahan said.
By lunchtime, temperatures in metro Atlanta will start pushing toward the predicted high of 92 degrees. It will be the fourth straight day with temperatures in the 90s, according to Channel 2.
“These aren’t record highs, but when you factor in the heat and the humidity ― you combine those two measures — it’s easy to get heat exhaustion in conditions like this,” Monahan said.
The chance of rain will increase as well, Channel 2 reported.
“Starting at 1 o’clock this afternoon, we’ll bring in that chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm,” Monahan said. “That’ll continue into the late afternoon.”
Friday and Saturday will feel similar, with the chance of pop-up showers in the forecast. However, the trend of highs in the 90s will last much longer.
“We’re in that weather pattern,” Monahan said. “It’s going to be hot until the end of the month.”
A fatal wreck has one right lane of U.S. 78 blocked near Stone Mountain Park, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. A man died when the car he was riding in went off the side of the highway and rolled over between Mountain Industrial Boulevard and I-285, officials told AJC.com.
A fallen tree is blocking two lanes of Ponce de Leon Avenue at Lullwater Road, the Traffic Center reported.
