5 things to know today: Double hot-car deaths tragedy

1. Twins, 3, die in hot pickup. A boy and girl in Shreveport, La., who are children of a deputy sheriff, were discovered too late by their mom in an overheated truck. Investigations are underway to determine how they were in the vehicle.

2. Let the MARTA battle begin. Atlanta voters will decide in November on a city’s sales tax by a half-penny to generate $2.5 billion over the next four decades for a MARTA expansion and other transit upgrades.
3. 40-year-sentence in Craigslist murder. An 18-year-old woman has confessed to her role in a robbery turned murder, committed when she was only 16.
4. More bad news for the Braves. Mallex Smith, an up-and-coming rookie outfielder, could miss 6 weeks after his left thumb was broken by a pitch Sunday.
5. Get ready for more Hotlanta. It’s summer for sure and temperatures will rise into the 90s Tuesday.
