Q: What’s Loran Smith, the former Georgia sideline reporter, is doing these days?

LEMAN ROSENBERG, FLORIDA

A: Smith told Q&A on the News that he wears two principal hats: his job with UGA athletics and his freelance career.

“At Georgia, I am involved with fundraising which, fortunately, has gone well with recent projects. I still produce the editorial copy for the football program and co-host the (football) pregame show on the Georgia network. I now have a good seat in the press box and enjoy an insightful discussion each home game with my old friend Bob Harrison, former Georgia receivers coach who finished his career with the Atlanta Falcons,” he wrote in an email.

He also is executive director of the UGA chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. He and Bill Saye manage the Wally’s Boys Association, principally made up of the players who played for coach Wally Butts.

Smith has a daily show (more than 30 stations in the state), a weekly radio show (40-plus stations in the state), writes two to three columns a week for about 25 papers in Georgia and writes columns several times a year for Georgia Trend magazine.

He also is working on two more books and “am having more fun than I deserve,” he wrote.
