Q: I read that it costs more than $8 million a year to maintain Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland. How many nights has President Obama spent there since he took office?
—Donnie Coker, Atlanta
A: Obama had made 37 trips to Camp David as president through May 14, CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reported.
He keeps track of presidential statistics, such how many times Obama has played golf or international trips he’s taken.
The president’s most recent trip to Camp David in mid-May was only the second time he has met foreign leaders for talks there. He met with representatives from six Arab nations to discuss the Iranian nuclear treaty.
By comparison, President George W. Bush made 150 trips to Camp David and hosted foreign leaders on 19 of those trips, Knoller reported May 14.
Q: If you inflate footballs to 12.5 PSI in a heated room and then take them into cold weather, what will the pressure loss be?
—Elmer Barrett, Ball Ground
A: Scientists and professors interviewed by the Boston Globe agreed that taking footballs from a warm environment to cold weather would cause loss of pounds per square inch.
Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan, a professor of applied mathematics, physics and biology at Harvard, told the paper that pressure in a football could drop from 12.5 to 11.1 PSI with a drop in temperature from 80 to 53 degrees.
There could be a drop of 0.5 to 1.5 PSI with a 5-10 percent drop in temperature, Richard P. Binzel, professor of planetary science at MIT, told the paper.
