Park rangers say Anderson fell nearly 350 feet Saturday morning. When rescuers found Anderson they performed CPR, but they couldn't resuscitate him. (Via U.S. National Park Service)

KXAS reports Anderson had been a State Farm Insurance agent since 1985. He owned his own agency in Bedford, Texas. In a statement from the company, a spokesperson said:

“John had a passion for life, his family and for serving the people of his community and beyond. He will be greatly missed.”

KTVT reports millions of people visit the canyon each year, but fatal falls are quite rare. (Via Wikimedia Commons / Mariordo Mario Roberto Duran Ortiz)

The National Park Service, along with the Coconino County medical examiner, is currently investigating the incident.
