Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins said Thursday he will donate his NFL playoff check to the family of a 7-year-old girl killed in an apparent random attack, KHOU reported.
Hopkins said his $29,000 check, which he will receive when the Texans host the Indianapolis Colts in a wild-card game Saturday, will be used to pay for the funeral costs of Jazmine Barnes.
When I see Jazmine Barnes' face, I see my own daughter. I'm pledging my playoff check this week to help her family with funeral costs and to support @shaunking @SherriffED_HCSO @SylvesterTurner in bringing this man to justice. Hopkins said on Twitter that he will donate the check to help pay for funeral costs for Jazmine and that he would join in the effort to bring the girl's killer to justice, KHOU reported.
"On Saturday, I will be playing in your honor, Jazmine," Hopkins tweeted.
Jazmine died Dec. 30 when she was fatally shot while riding inside a vehicle with her mother and three sisters.
"What I can do, that's nothing, that won't bring back a person," Hopkins told ESPN on Thursday. "I'm not trying to make it out about me or anything like that. It's the least I could do."
