A 14-year-old DeKalb County girl will be tried as an adult in the November fatal stabbing of her toddler sister, according the DeKalb District Attorney’s Office.
A DeKalb County grand jury on Tuesday indicted Ty’Asia Jackson on charges of murder, aggravated assault, first-degree child cruelty and making false statements, DA spokesman Erik Burton said.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution does not usually name juvenile suspects unless they are charged as adults.
District Attorney Robert James’ office would not comment on the decision to try the teen as an adult.
Sasha Ray, 2, was found in her backyard with multiple stab wounds on the afternoon of Nov. 19 after she was reported missing, police said.
Her parents called for an ambulance before attempting to take the girl to the hospital themselves. She died on the way, authorities said.
The teen initially told her parents and police that her younger sister was missing, then told police she didn’t know how her sister died.
Jackson has been held in the DeKalb County juvenile detention center since she surrendered to police with her parents on the day of the toddler’s death.
