A 16-year-old is facing the possibility of two brain surgeries after three months of constant pain as the result of a car accident in Hiram.

South Paulding High School student Alexis McDonald, whose father is a Paulding County deputy, was rear-ended by another teenage driver Oct. 25. She walked away from the accident but started experiencing pain after her mother picked her up, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“Her head was hurting. She started crying. Started getting back pain. They took her to the ER,” Sgt. Mike Whitley, Alexis’ father, told Channel 2.

A GoFundMe page started by Whitley's friends said that his daughter is suffering from "constant pain with brain swelling and severe neck injuries."

McDonald had brain surgery earlier this week at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. She will find out Friday if she needs a second brain surgery, according to Channel 2.

Whitley is working extra jobs and dipping into his life’s savings to cover the costs of medical bills, Channel 2 reported.

McDonald was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Charles Hardy Parkway when the 19-year-old male driver hit the back of her car, according to an accident report obtained by AJC.com.

The teenager’s car was damaged in the crash.

The man told police he attempted to stop but hydroplaned. Officers at the scene said they did not see any water on the road, according to Hiram police spokesman Edwin Ivey.

The teen was cited for following too closely.
