A suspicious package temporarily closed part of the Virginia Highland Friday night, according to police.

The area around 1002 N. Highland Ave. was being evacuated shortly before 8 p.m., according to Officer John Chafee.

The package was later determined to be harmless and contained personal items, Chafee said. The area was re-opened around 9 p.m.
