A suspect in a Gwinnett County bank robbery apparently didn’t want his efforts to go up in smoke.

As the man entered the Wells Fargo branch on Centerville Highway shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday, the suspect ignited two incendiary-type devices that burned and created smoke, according to Cpl. Ed Ritter with Gwinnett police.

No one was seriously injured, Ritter said. But the suspect demanded money from a teller and was able to leave the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police. The “smoke bombs” served as diversion for the suspect, who remained on the loose late Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators with the Gwinnett County fire department and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms are assisting police with the investigation, Ritter said. A description of the suspect was not available Tuesday afternoon.
