A 22-year-old is wanted on a malice murder charge after police said he stabbed a man to death during an attempted robbery outside of a Roswell restaurant.
Roswell police have also taken out warrants accusing Sergio Alvarado of aggravated assault, possession of a knife during certain crimes and robbery, according to department spokesman Officer Tim Lupo.
Investigators were sent to the La Parranda Mexican Bar and Grill just after midnight Saturday after a 911 caller reported “a group of people fighting” in the parking lot, Lupo said.
No one was at the scene when police arrived, but officers were notified that a man had arrived at a hospital with a stab wound. Officers later identified the victim as 40-year-old Rigoberto Corea and determined he had been injured in the fight outside La Parranda, Lupo said.
Medical professionals tried to save Corea’s life, but he died of his injuries.
“Corea and Alvarado were known to each other, and the incident appears to stem from an attempted personal robbery,” Lupo said. It is not clear what, if anything, was stolen during the incident.
Alvarado’s whereabouts are unknown. He’s described as 5-foot-9 and about 160 pounds, according to police. Alvarado has brown eyes and long, black hair that may be pulled back into a ponytail.
Roswell police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call 770-640-4100 to speak with a detective. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
